About: I remember my first beer...actually, I don't. It was probably something horrible like a Coors light and I'm glad I've forgotten. My experience with beer has come full circle. Originally I gave up on beer because I thought it was all crappy lagers. One day in 2002, I happened upon a little deli called Hollingshead in Anaheim, CA that just happened to have a vast array of "crazy" beers on tap I had never heard of. I dug the look of the STONE IPA handle and tried it. My life has never been the same since. I was in love with hops, grains, and the amazing beauty of what beer can really be.
I love bold flavors and extremes. Belgiums and homebrewing my own beer.See Authors Posts (76) | Filed under: Enhance Your Knowledge

I was reading the wonderful and free online book by John Palmer “How to Brew” Chapter 19 – Some of My Favorite Beer Styles and Recipes” and thought this was a great chart comparing different style ales and lagers based on maltiness and bitterness scales.

Excellent, thanks for posting this chart as it gives a whole other viewpoint on the universe of brews and where they tend to stack up against each other flavor wise. Not too mention the link to the book, mighty fine resource and a must read for any homebrewer starting off.
