Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse Dunkel

Author: Gile | Filed under: Beer Reviews

Name: Hefe-Weisse Dunkel

Brewery: Franziskaner

Overall Rating: B-

Style: Dunkel

Serving Style: Bottle 1 pint 9 fl.oz.

ABV: 5%

Price: $2.29

Appearance: Cloudy brown color with a white foamy head that quickly thins out to a thin layer that covers the entire beer. No lacing on the glass.

Aroma: Sweet, caramelly, and malty; similar to a Belgian.

Flavor: Not a super powerful flavor blast, yet you do taste sweet flavors, almost like a candy. Carbonation tickles your tongue and the walls of your mouth. This is a very sweet Dunkel and it’s almost like the carbonation is keeping the flavors from really hitting your tongue. Also the wheat probably really tones it down.

Body: Very well carbonated. Leaves a slight flavor coating on your mouth and teeth that sticks with you for a minute.

Enjoyability: Overall, it tastes good. Its low ABV means that I could enjoy a few of these while out with some friends. I would recommend this to people that maybe want to expand their taste horizons. This would be a great beer for those that don’t want a heavy craft brew.

It is brewed, bottled and imported to the States by good ‘ol Spaten-Brau of Munich, Germany.

    That graphic sure looks gimmicky!

I don’t really like wheat beers. I’m a barley kinda guy at heart. Wheat is for diet bread and crackers.

@Sigaro: It doesn’t take like a typical Hefe.
