I’m a huge fan of open source software and have been for years. I always believe you get the best, most secure product by keeping the code open to peer review. While I own BeerSmith, I was searching around today and came across QBrew, the open source brewing software. While not as in-depth as BeerSmith, it gets the job done. There are Windows and Linux binaries available. If your a homebrewer, check it out.
Source Code
qbrew-0.4.1.tar.gz [284K] Here’s the current stable version. To compile this, you will need the Qt library, available at Troll Tech. See the INSTALL file for more information.
Prebuilt Packages
Macintosh: qbrew-osx.zip [8.8M], here’s a native package of QBrew 0.4.1 for Macintosh OSX. This is a Universal binary, for both PPC and x86, v10.4 and above. Here’s a screenshot of QBrew on the Mac.
Windows: qbrew-win32.zip [4.5M], here’s a native package of QBrew 0.4.1 for Windows. Just unzip it and run the installer.
Linux/BSD/Unix: Packages are available for many Linux and Unix systems, including Debian GNU/Linux, Ubuntu Linux, OpenSUSE, FreeBSD, and NetBSD. Please check your package manager or repository for availability.
