Name: Quilmes
Brewery: Cervecería y maltería Quilmes
Overall Rating: B-
Style: Lager
Serving Style: Bottle, 12fl. oz.
ABV: 4.9%
Price: $Gift
Appearance: Pale yellow. You can tell its been filtered quite a bit. Had a good head with a vigorous pour that thinned out quickly leaving lacing on the glass.
Aroma: Surprisingly I can smell malts in there. This is already turning out to not be a typical lager. There is that little bit of bitter hit high in the nostril.
Flavor: I went into this review knowing that I might not like this brew because it is super pale and filtered. You can’t judge a book by it’s cover and I am keeping an open mind as I sip this. Initially you get the lager taste. Its not real bitter like American lagers, its more subdued and smooth. It finishes clean with a slight taste in your mouth. I am really surprised by this one!
Body: The body is a nice, even carbonation. Light and fluffy on the tongue and goes down smooth. There is still bubbles rising from a few points inside the glass.
Enjoyability: I held off on this section until I finished the ‘ol Quilmes. The label proudly says: “Argentina’s Favorite Beer”. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I actually enjoyed it. If I am ever in Argentina I will definitely have more. If you happen to come across this brew in some obscure market, get it, try it, let me know how you liked it.
This came in a box of other beers labeled: World Beer Traveler. Hence the gift under the price. Here are the rest of those beers as well:
