About: I recall my first sip of beer very fondly. At a very early age I was watching a baseball game with my father, and he noticed I was curious as to the colorful red and white canned beverage in his hand and finally offered me a sip. At that point I felt like I was a part of something special. As I was never able to touch those elusive drinks prior to that moment, I felt like a grown man, sipping the sudsy elixir with my dad watching sports on the tv screen.
That was a one time event though, and it wasnt until my teen years when I realized the magical effects beer can have at social functions. I became enamored immediately with the level of fun that can be had while drinking what I also had confessed was the most refreshing drink in existence.
After years of experimenting with every drink available to me, I have found my tastes and preferences have matured. Still, more so than ever I am driven by the quest to find the ultimate beverage. Though I know there is no such thing I am always trying something new to find my favorites. I enjoy variety, and also believe the only way to discover truly what you enjoy the most is by trying everything you can. Not only do you learn about the various styles and flavors associated with the many kinds of beer, but you also learn what you like as well as what perhaps you are not particularly fond of. There is a time and a mood for just about any style of beer crafted today, and the more you experience the better you are prepared to suit your own tastes.
I love beer, pure and simple.See Authors Posts (52) | Filed under: Beer Reviews

Name: Troubadour Obscura
Brewery: Brouwerij De Musketiers
Overall Rating: A
Style: Mild Belgian Stout
Serving Style: 750ml Bottle
ABV: 8.2 %
Price: $10.99
Appearance: A beautiful creamy head lays thickly on top of the grateful glass. The tone is almost a muddy dark brown. This head is amazing.
Aroma: A pronounced malty, spicy aroma with a dash of toastiness. I even believe I detect some hints of alcohol here.
Flavor: This is my first ever Belgian stout, and I must say that my expectations were exceeded. It starts so simple and smooth with some sweet malts and a toasty flavor with a slight dark cocoa taste topped with a hint of some spices. The carbonation carries these flavors and embeds them deeply into your being. The aftertaste gently fades leaving you to enjoy fully all that this remarkable stout offers. When they call it mild I believe they mean balanced, as there are so many bold and complex flavors that meld together in perfect harmony that you cannot deny how refined this stout really is.
Body: The thick creamy head on this stout is truly a thing of beauty. The lacing on this beverage is amazing as it leaves a thick foamy layer everywhere it comes in contact with the glass. As you drink it, the same occurs as the flavors spread and build and last for your enjoyment. The head makes its way onto your lips with a gentle caressing touch. It leaves you properly, to bask in the experience you had just been privileged to.
Enjoyability: I really appreciate stouts, and this one stands out as one of the fullest, yet most balanced stouts I have had in quite some time. It has got it all, yet all those flavors are delivered perfectly for optimal enjoyment. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that enjoys stouts or flavorful brew on any level, and the Obscura just may convert a few to stoutism!
