Gile’s Arrogant Bastard

About: My first beer was Budweiser. I was about 9 or 10, Dad and I were broken down and the side of the road and all there was to drink was Budweiser. So I had a swig of his, hated it!
I didn't drink beer again until I joined the Marine Corps. I was in Quantico, attending Small Computer Systems Specialist school, when I accidentally knocked a beer out the fridge and broke it. My buddies said now I gotta drink one! The rest is history. The broken beer was a Red Dog by the way.
Now days I am really a hop head that enjoys the IPAs [Stone IPA; Lagunitas IPA] and Douple IPAs [Moylan's; Hair of the Dog Blue Dot]. I also like Belgians [St Bernardus; Delirium; Three Philosopher's] a lot! I also like the Stouts and Porters [Black Butte] as well.
I enjoy going to breweries to sample as well as going to pubs and taverns. I also like enjoying beer with friends and bouncing ideas off of other intelligent people as well. Last time I was at O'Brien's I was shooting the shit with a couple of random strangers.
I hope to someday do a pub/tavern crawl across Europe. That's all I want. Simple.

Today I brewed up my second batch, a Stone Arrogant Bastard clone! I used the following:
- Six pounds of Briess liquid malt syrup
- Four cups of Munton’s Amber DME [color 18 EBC| Lovibond 7]
- One pound of Crystal Malt 120L
- 2 oz of Columbus hops at the start of boil
- 1 oz of Columbus hops at 15min left
- 1 oz of Columbus hops at 2 min left
- Nottingham yeast [1 packet | 11g]
Notes from this one:
- I forgot to put the liquid extract in right away. My last batch was just dry DME and grains.
- I added another 15 minutes to the boil since the extract wasn’t added until it had been boiling for 20 minutes.
- Anticipated SG was supposed to be 1.066, my actual was only 1.042. I think messing up on the extracts was what caused this.
- Boil temp was from 210 – 215 degrees.
Here is a video of my boil;notice the white bucket to the top right of the screen [doh!]:

With each batch, I learn something new. This one was no exception! Happy brewing!

That is the shortest video I’ve ever seen! Does a 1-sec video = a picture?? Hahahahahaha….
The SG would be about the same regardless of when you added the malts. Screwing with the boiling times will mess up your hopping and thus IBUs. Normally adding late extracts will boost the end IBU. Either way, this is gonna be one special brew! What is 4 cups of LME in weight?

That is 2 pounds. I probably needed to add more since the recipe called for 6.6 pounds of extract and I only had 6. So probably needed another 1 1/2 cups of DME.
