A car is deadly if you drive it into a brick wall. A kitchen knife is deadly if you trip and stab it into your chest.
Just because something is dangerous if handled improperly is not, in my opinion, a valid argument against using it.

I have plenty of glass carboys and better bottles. I guess the fact that I brew in my garage and then ferment in my basement makes those 22 steps down the basement with a slippery glass carboy a scary situation for me. Just like driving a car down an icy cliff or using a kitchen knife with greasy buttered hands. Some things are just made more deadly by their environment.
