Aroma: Espresso and hints of dark chocolate dominate the aromatics. The hops are present, but the stout wins the aromatic round.
Appearance: Nice near black appearance. Decent head and lacing. Head retention is a bit weak but normal for a stoud.
Flavor: Nice Imperial stout characteristics start the flavor profile and it finishes with hop resins on the tongue.
Mouthfeel: Chewy, medium body. Not as heavy an Imperial Stout.
Enjoyability: This is a good beer. The blend is 67% IPA and 33% Imperial Stout. I actually like this combo better than some of the Imperial IPA/Belgium Triples I’ve had lately. Still, I find my that my mouth is confused. I really want to have a glass of the BORIS or an IPA after having this. Maybe it’s my beer snootyness getting in the way. Perhaps I should just drink it and shut up. I do enjoy the flavors but I just can’t help myself from wanting some separation in the styles.
