Name: Lagunitas Imperial Stout
Brewery: Lagunitas
Overall Rating: B+
Style: Imperial Stout
BJCP Style Category: 13F
Serving Style: 22oz Bomber
ABV: 8.2
IBU:47
Price: $5.99
Aroma: A complex malt character hits the olfactory first with abundant roasted grains lingering. The malts complexity reminded me of a barley wine or an Old Ale. The roasted grains gave the smell of unsweetened chocolate.
Appearance: When held to the light, it was not quite black. Gave off a dark ruby tone that was impressive. Deep, complex tan head on this one. Lacing and even a little legs (Lacing and legs, sexy) were present as well.
Flavor: The flavors mirrored the prologue that the aromatics told. Complex grain, deep malt, unsweetened chocolate. Nice dry finish.
Body: Moderate carbonation, full and chewy.
Enjoyability: I thought this stout almost hit the style perfectly and was one of the first Lagunitas I really liked in recent years (sorry gile). There are so many damn good beers in this category that I would reach for over this one. If I were to rate this beer VS the style, it gets a A-. If I were rating this against all other Imperial Stouts I’ve had, it would get a C+. So my overall rating until we come up with a new rating system is a B+
Another take: The Drunken Polack gives it a shot | Barley Blog too | I’ll draw the line at BREW POO review
