This week, my travels take me to Atlanta! In this city you will find a lot of nice people, good things [not for you, tasting] to eat and some beer of varying qualities. Here in Georgia, they have a state law prohibiting the sale of beer about 14%. You might think that would be great. That you would be able to find a good craft brew on every corner. I haven’t found that to be the case.
What I did find was a little place called Gibney’s Pub. At first glance of the beer selection menu, I was not impressed. They did have a couple of craft brews but not a huge selection. After having a Sweetwater Georgia Brown and being very unimpressed by its mellow, brown ale blandness, I was left hoping to find something a little more complex.
I was then introduced to, what the waiter called “imperial stouts”, One was called Side Project and one was called Wake and Bake, both from Terrapin Beer Co. The Side project was a very smooth, very tasty example of a stout. If it was in fact an imperial, it left me thinking it was. Leaving me to believe that I could throw back quite a few of them. It was almost Porter-esk in its smoothness.
Now the Wake and Bake was a different story entirely. This one had an aroma of rich chocolates and some roasted malts. the rich aroma lead to rich flavors that continued to indulge the imagination as you are taken down a slide of chocolate stout. It was pitch black [as expected!] with a nice, heavy, caramel head.

Chili fries look pretty tasty. Keep searching, there must be something good out there. I can’t believe that many people would just be satisfied to drink ordinary beer.

Mighty fine adventure! Nice Bud Light 6-Pack Carrier next to your Wake and Bake Stout! Is that brewed onsite at the pub?

It was good to actually have some fine brews or at least something to post about.
Tonight I had a Sam Smith Nut Brown and the same place had Chimay Red Label in bottle form.
