Aroma: Roasted malts come barreling (pun intended) through. Hints of molasses and oatmeal are present as well.
Appearance: Black as night. Nicely carbonated. Some lacing, nothing major. Normal for this style.
Flavor: Roasted malt comes through once again. Roasted hazelnuts after tones. Slightly sweet, slightly astringent. Hints of fine Kentucky bourbon shine through.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied, well carbonated.
Enjoyability: I left work early just to go get some of this coveted beer and I’m glad I did. When I arrived at the brewery around 1PM there was a line out the door of people picking up this beer. I was lucky enough to score a few bottles. They sold out around 2PM today. It was only on sale for about 5 hours. The original BORIS was the GABF Gold Imperial Stout winner for 2008. Fred Kram, master brewer/owner of Hoppin’ Frog, took that same winner and stuck it in Bourbon casks for an undisclosed period of time (At least 3 months) and made this gem. Epic beer aged in epic wood = amazing beer x10. If you get a chance to try this, DO IT. It’s awesome.
