Titletown Brewery Review

Author: Sudz | Filed under: News

Okay, so I gotta admit that the thought of spending 3 weeks in Green Bay Wisconsin didn’t actually thrill me especially knowing that the weather in SoCal was going to be so righteously beautiful.

After working 4 10 hour days this week, I was so ready to go home. Last night I was reading the local guide and notice that I was stumbling distance from one of Green Bay’s greatest gems.. TitleTown Brewery! This is part one of my review in which I am just going over the tasty brews I sampled at a high level. Part two of this review will include additional brews and a review of their tasty Spicy Elk burger!

Titletown serves the area as an upscale eating establishment and microbrewery, while preserving the 100 year history of Green Bay’s finest landmark. In December 1999, the depot was officially named to the National Register of Historic Places.

The beer line up
Who could possibly decide on just one beer when walking into this place. I tried the sampler tonight which included a star studded line up fine crafted brews. This is a condense review and next week, I will be spending more time focusing on individual brews.

Titletown Brew Sampler 10 samples!

Name: Canadeo Gold

Beer Stye: Kolsch – Kölsch is a local beer speciality, brewed in Cologne, Germany. It is a clear beer with a bright straw yellow hue, and it has a prominent, but not extreme, hoppiness. It is less bitter than the standard German lager beer

Tasting Notes:
Light floral aromas, golden sunshine hue, crisp finish with a hint of fruitiness. Outstanding ale!

Name: 400 Honey Ale

Beer Style: Blonde Ale – The ultimate cross over beer. For those yellow fizzy drinkers who are taking their first baby steps towards microbrews, this blonde ale would be the guiding light!

Tasting Notes:
Clear, crisp, and dry, with low bitterness and a surprisingly floral aroma with sweetness from malt. Hints of fruitiness but does dominate the flavour or aroma. A ligh body from and good level carbonation. I call this the pilsner killer! While I am not a fan of light beers, this is got to be my favorite ‘light’ beer.

RiverYard Ale
Beer Style: Düsseldorf altbier – German top-fermenting beer. The name Altbier, which literally means old [style] beer, refers to the pre-lager brewing method of using a warm top-fermenting yeast like British pale ales.

Tasting Notes:
Distinct balance of hoppy and malty aromas. An unexpected smooth and balance finish for a malty beer. Roasty maltiness with a surprisingly clean finish. Medium body and gorgeous amber hues! This is Titletown’s GABF’s 2008 Silver Medalist.

Name: Hopasaurus Rex
Beer Style: American IPA – pale to amber in color and generally their flavor and aroma is centered around the citrusy and pine character of American hops with caramel-like malt flavors and fruity esters from the ale yeast playing a supporting role/

Tasting Notes:
Surprisingly clear for an IPA. Well pronounced citrus hoppy aromas, medium body, light clean finish, good finish. Hop heads would rejoyce after a few sips of this one. I found this to be well balanced and very smooth.

Name: Johnny’s Blood

Beery Style: Irish Red Ale

Tasting Notes:
Strong malty aromas! Hints of roasty and caramelly flavors. A bit too malty for my taste but this one is sure to keep the malt heads happy. Good clean finish for such a malty ale.

Name: Bridge out Stout

Beer Style: Stout

Tasking Notes:
DARK creamy oatmeal stout. Incredibly smooth and rich and surprisingly llight body for such a heavy looking stout. One sip of this and I knew that it is amoung my favorite stouts. Drinkability is off the charts! I will do a full review of this one when I return next week. DLISH!

Name: HopMonster

Beer Style: Imperial IPA, ABV 9.2%

Tasting Notes:
I believe the name says it all. Hopheads will love this one! This is my pick of the night and I will be giving this a full review on my next trip.
