About: I remember my first beer...actually, I don't. It was probably something horrible like a Coors light and I'm glad I've forgotten. My experience with beer has come full circle. Originally I gave up on beer because I thought it was all crappy lagers. One day in 2002, I happened upon a little deli called Hollingshead in Anaheim, CA that just happened to have a vast array of "crazy" beers on tap I had never heard of. I dug the look of the STONE IPA handle and tried it. My life has never been the same since. I was in love with hops, grains, and the amazing beauty of what beer can really be.
I love bold flavors and extremes. Belgiums and homebrewing my own beer.See Authors Posts (76) | Filed under: Beer Reviews

Traquair 900
Name: Traquair 900
Brewery: Traquair House
Overall Rating: A
Style: English Barleywine
Serving Style: 12oz
ABV: 9%
Price: $6.99
Aroma: Figs and other dark fruits. Sweet maltiness kisses the nostrils.
Appearance: Very dark brown with a light head. Some persistent lacing.
Flavor: Sweet malted candy with toffee notes. Slightly toasty with a hint of oak.
Mouthfeel: Nicely carbonated. Surprisingly medium bodied for such a big beer.
Enjoyability: Wonderful beer and pretty amazing to grab such a rare find here in Ohio. The brewery only produces 600 barrels a year and only a small portion is for export. Because it was a bit light bodied for a 9% barleywine, it somehow it reminds me of a DoppleBock like the Celebrator. Very nice and a great example of the style; nothing like the American Barleywine.
Another take: Barley Vine | Official Site (Kinda cool, it’s the oldest inhabit house in Scotland)
