Name: Storm King
Brewery: Victory
Overall Rating: B
Style: Imperial Stout
Serving Style: 12oz
ABV: 9.1%
Price: $2.99
Aroma: Roast malts, of course, are the dominant aromatic. But there is also a strong estery, piney tang on the nose.
Appearance: Perfect carbonation, wonderful lacing (see pic). Jet black with a fluffy tan head that took a long time to settle.
Flavor: Deep espresso tones roll over the tongue in a dance that brings slaps the taste buds to life. Dark, rich, a tad creamy. Finish is slightly dry with a nice burnt nut and dark cocoa finale.
Mouthfeel: Chewy, full bodied. Malts coat the mouth nicely.
Enjoyability: This is a very good Imperial Stout. The American hops are very dominant in the aromatics and flavor and it makes this a unique beer. Victory is one of the few brewers to use whole leaf hops in their kettles and for some reason their beers are better for it. The whole hops seem to give Victory a bit more complexity that makes their beers memorable.

We fully believe in the value of whole flower hops. Our research tells us that a higher ratio of flavor to bitterness from the whole hops. Glad to hear that you caught this impression though the flavorful depth of Storm King.
