About: I recall my first sip of beer very fondly. At a very early age I was watching a baseball game with my father, and he noticed I was curious as to the colorful red and white canned beverage in his hand and finally offered me a sip. At that point I felt like I was a part of something special. As I was never able to touch those elusive drinks prior to that moment, I felt like a grown man, sipping the sudsy elixir with my dad watching sports on the tv screen.
That was a one time event though, and it wasnt until my teen years when I realized the magical effects beer can have at social functions. I became enamored immediately with the level of fun that can be had while drinking what I also had confessed was the most refreshing drink in existence.
After years of experimenting with every drink available to me, I have found my tastes and preferences have matured. Still, more so than ever I am driven by the quest to find the ultimate beverage. Though I know there is no such thing I am always trying something new to find my favorites. I enjoy variety, and also believe the only way to discover truly what you enjoy the most is by trying everything you can. Not only do you learn about the various styles and flavors associated with the many kinds of beer, but you also learn what you like as well as what perhaps you are not particularly fond of. There is a time and a mood for just about any style of beer crafted today, and the more you experience the better you are prepared to suit your own tastes.
I love beer, pure and simple.See Authors Posts (52) | Filed under: Homebrew
Finally after many months in the making of what is Sigaro’s first ever all grain home brewed batch of a rare style of ale, the Elusive Baltic Porter was finally had this glorious evening! Now this brew has undergone more than a few name changes along the way, but it was aptly deserving of its final title. Elusive, indeed..

A fine lacing of light brown caramel carbonation lingers for quite some time. The aromas are malty and subtle, gentle. Flavors of richly sweet malted toffee and coffee , with a nice warming alcohol coat adding to the experience of tastes. I am really enjoying this beer. It leaves you with a sustained dry and bittersweet finish, yet surprisingly being medium bodied and refreshing at the same time. All this from an almost 7% abv porter with such complex character. I will say I have not had many Baltic porters as of yet to compare this to, but maybe it’s a testament to how delicious this beverage is that I now want to explore further into this style of ale made with lager yeast! I savored this long time coming experience as it disappeared from my glass and the bottle afterward.
I commend Sigaro on his effort here, and also am very curious to see how it will do in the upcoming Ohio State Fair as it will be entered in and judged by professionals there. The basic labeling held on with rubber bands is conforming to Ohio Fair entry standards. I would say this drink will turn some Ohio taste buds heads for certain. A+++
For being a first time all grain brewed batch I am overall quite impressed. I am grateful for this fine indulgence in brewcraft and wondering if I may ever have yet another Elusive Baltic Porter..
