Name: Hibernation Ale
Brewery: Great Divide
Overall Rating: A
Style: English Style Old Ale
Serving Style: 12oz Bottle
ABV: 8.7%
IBU: Unknown
Price: $8.99/6-pack
Aroma: Toasty, molasses with a hint a peanut butter (crazy, right?!).
Appearance: Copper hue, no prevalent glass lacing. Micro head with dense tan bubbles.
Flavor: Malty, yet refined. Wonderfully rich maltiness with a perfectly balanced hop kick on the backside. Black licorice, coffee, honey, and even a hint of clove can be tasted.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied, nicely carbonated.
Enjoyability: To be honest, this 6 pack has been in my fridge since Thanksgiving. For some reason, I just haven’t felt like drinking it. Perhaps I’ve been disappointed by so many beers from Colorado over the years that I always reached for something else. Let me tell you, this is a surprise hit of the the year. I decided to drink 4 (over two days) before posting a review. This is a perfectly balanced, high-abv ale that really showcases the malts. Truly delivers a winter warmer experience and I urge you to find this and try it out if you like big, malty beers.

I love Old English ales, I’ll keep my eyes peeled for this one! I recommend Haviestoun Old Engine Oil to you if you like this style.. A Scottish version of Old Ale that delivers the goods :^)
