I have been fortunate enough to be inundated with many, many glorious, delicious, exquisite, premium brews this year! Easily more so than any other year I have been in existence.. I am truly grateful for the countless blessings of alcoholic bliss I have indulged in this year!! I was fast asleep dreaming of hops and malts (not sugar plums, yuck!) when…
On the Second Day of BeerMas, the brewmaster handed me, a Westmalle Trappist Tripel..
Appearance: A beautiful light to medium straw gold with a slight haze in the liquid. The head is huge on this one with extra feisty carbonation quickly rising towards the top of the glass. A foamy off white lacing is left wherever the carbonation has been.
Aroma: The scent of yeast first enters your nose, followed by a bit of malts and fruits, along with florals, spice and some hops. Its all in here.
Flavor: Tons of flavor come from this smaller unsuspecting bottle, a dash of malt is quickly subdued with Belgian yeast, a hint of spice, and a nice bitter bite followed by a warm finish. All this flavor and yet the finish sets you up perfectly for the next drink.
Body: The thick full body is accented by the amazing carbonation this brew possesses.
Enjoyability: The Westmalle Tripel really has got it all, its bold and strong, is creamy on the palate, and at the same time finishes smoothly. There are many beers that stand out to me, but the Westmalle Tripel is a beverage that engulfs my thoughts when it comes to the complexity, balance, flavors, aromas, and textures that all come together in blissful harmony. Get yourself the fine gift of pure taste pleasure this season..
Joy to the world!!!

A great choice! This is a classic. I do have a tragic Westmalle story to share.
Earlier this year at the Winking Lizard, I had ordered this very beer. #66 I believe on the world beer tour. I got real excited when I saw they were serving it in the correct glassware. But when the chick poured it, she poured it extra vigorously and super fast so at the end it was pure yeasty sludge. Before I could correct her mistake, she said “That’s a bad beer again! These guys beers are from Europe and I think they’re rotten!!!” I explained the problem and she got another Westmalle and she poured it correctly. Got two beers out of it and now she thanks me every time I see her down there. Maybe it wasn’t a tragic story afterall. Long live Westmalle !@!!
