About: I remember my first beer...actually, I don't. It was probably something horrible like a Coors light and I'm glad I've forgotten. My experience with beer has come full circle. Originally I gave up on beer because I thought it was all crappy lagers. One day in 2002, I happened upon a little deli called Hollingshead in Anaheim, CA that just happened to have a vast array of "crazy" beers on tap I had never heard of. I dug the look of the STONE IPA handle and tried it. My life has never been the same since. I was in love with hops, grains, and the amazing beauty of what beer can really be.
I love bold flavors and extremes. Belgiums and homebrewing my own beer.See Authors Posts (76) | Filed under: News
On the Sixth Day of BeerMas, my Master Brewer St. Nick handed to me a Hoppin’ Frog B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher Oatmeal-Imperial Stout

Hoppin Frog Boris The Crusher
Once again, another high-abv bold beer was my choice as 2nd favorite of the year. This RIS has no equal in my option. Insanely complex with deep chocolate malts. Speaking with Owner/Master Brewer Fred Karm I learned he uses a special Beligum Chocolate malts. The Beligians know chocolate and they know beer. But it’s more that just the malts that make this beer so special. It’s perfectly balanced and full bodied with intense flavors that linger from sip to sip. I can think of no beer St. Nick would rather sip to stay warm and toasty on those cold nights at the North Pole. It’s no wonder this baby took Gold at GABF.
