Overall Rating: B

Style:  Belgian Style Wit Bier

Serving Style:  1 pint 9.6 oz bottle

ABV: 10 %

IBU: 35

Aroma:  From the start, I got hit with an orange and coriander aroma.  Also I captured some sweetness from the fruits.

Appearance: Amber with a strong orange tone.  Somewhat opache with decent carbonation for a big brew and with some lacing.

Flavor: I can definately taste the orange peals and red grapes.  Fruity tasting for sure with a strong witbier taste.  Lots of spiceyness and yeastiness happening too.

Mouthfeel: Good and creamy mouthfeel with a mild alcohol burn.

Enjoyability: Good belgian style brew.  A good sipping beer to have with some good friends over a good meal.

Shmaltz Brewing Company (He’Brew) – Bittersweet Lenny’s R.I.P.A.

Author: Escape To Beer | Filed under: Beer Reviews

Name:  Bittersweet Lenny’s R.I.P.A.

Brewery: Shmaltz Brewing Company (He’Brew)

Overall Rating: B +

Style: Double IPA With Rye Malt

Serving Style:  22 oz Bomber

ABV: 10 %

Price: $ 5.99

Aroma: Hoppy but yet with some sweetness from the malty backbone.

Appearance:  Beautiful red in color.  A healthy amount of carbonation.  A thick head when I first poured it into the glass and lots of lacing through out the glass.

Flavor:  The flavor is a bit complex.  From the bitterness of all the hops to the sweetness of all the malts.  Something you want to slip slowly to enjoy them all.  You do get some of the alcohol from the high ABV as a aftertaste but not too bad.  Does not take away from the taste.

Mouthfeel:  Nice smooth body.  Goes down easy.  Kind of syrupy too.

Enjoyability: I really like this one.  If your a hop head, you will like it too.  This brew had a hint of a barely wine style beer with but yet stayed true to the IPA style at the same time.

Alpine Beer Company Nelson

Alpine Beer Company Nelson

Name: Nelson

Brewery: Alpine Beer Company

Overall Rating: B++

Style: IPA

Serving Style: Bottle 220z

ABV: 7%

IBU: Unknown

Price: $6.29

Aroma: Sweet esters and some sour apricots. Slight hop aroma was noted.

Appearance: Orange and cloudy. Good, strong white head on it that slowly dissipated into a thin head with heavy coating on the side of my glass.

Flavor: The apricot aromas transcend into an apricot taste. Slight bitterness in the back of the mouth with a lingering, sweet finish.

Mouthfeel: Big and bold mouthfeel. This is a beer that needs teeth to chew your way either through it, or out of it!

Enjoyability: Overall enjoyability is high for me. I am having this moderate ABV [7%] on a hot day while I brew a beer some beer of my own. Its enjoyable and begs for you to pay attention to it as it lingers in your mouth until you take the next sip and renew the flavors. The sweet after taste is a nice contrast to the apricot/hop bitterness.

Appearance: Dark amber color invades your glass as it is poured.  There is a nice tan head that forms and stays for a while.  Noticible lacing around the whole glass as you drink it.

Flavor: The taste is sweet from all the 13 malts.  You also notice the dark fruits and coffee tastes too.  In a word the taste is exquisite.

Mouthfeel: Good thick body.  You can also feel the heat from the high ABV but not something that is too over powering.

Enjoyability: This in one that you want to have over and over but for you’re safety, not all in one sitting.  :)   I drank mine slow to enjoy every sip.
